"I AM NOT FORGOTTEN"

We were at a loss as to what to do with the children who have no safe place to live.

Many have lost both father and mother - some have even lost the grandparents. They have no place to go. Often the shelters and food that are offered by neighbors are nothing more than an invitation to become someone's sex slave. Many kids will accept this offer simply because they are cold and hungry.

Make ("MA-kgae" is a polite term used to address ladies; it means "mother") Peggy had been a school teacher at one of our CarePoints. Her heart was full of compassion for the little ones who had no safe haven after school. Between Make Peggy and Ben Rodgers, our missions director for Africa, the idea for using her place as a (temporary) home for some children was born.

We are calling this project, "I Am Not Forgotten."

After raising her own children and even caring for some of her own grandchildren, Make Peggy retired from teaching and began mothering - again.

Presently caring for eight children, not only does she provide a temporary* safe place to eat and sleep, but she is a strong Christian woman who teaches each child the ways of Jesus, daily chores and safe hygiene. And she truly loves each child.

We visited this little home with a party of cake and juice for the little family and spent some time talking and praying together. The children love Make Peggy.

But this takes care of only eight out of thousands of needy children.

We are working on establishing another temporary* home just like Make Peggy's. Pray with us that we find the right mother - a Godly woman who will love and nourish hurting kids - and the right structure to house them.

Maybe God will give us even more homes and mothers like Make Peggy.

*Temporary because the government does not want orphanages. They will allow temporary shelters until a family member wants to give a child a home, or until the child reaches adulthood.
