HONDURAS COUNTRYSIDE

These Central American children must forage the mountainsides to find wood for their cooking fires.

The need for wood is systematically eliminating trees in many countries.

In northern Africa it means the Sahara desert moves south several kilometers every year.

In mountainous areas it means stripping the slopes of vegetation, which turns rains into landslides and floods.

Life is not easy in the Third World.

STREET URCHIN: TEGUCIGALPA, HONDURAS

He talked me out of my Coke--not with words but by his eyes.

Another Coke invested in a street kid.

LITTLE WENDY: TEGUCIGALPA, HONDURAS

It wasn't always like this.

Wendy Carolina's daddy was a drunk--a mean one. Just a few weeks before I took this photo Wendy and her mommy were preparing to walk to church.

"If you go to that church again, I'll kill you both," came the drunken threat.

Her mommy was tired of the abuse and threats. "If you kill us now, we'll go to heaven. If you don't we are going to church."

Stunned and sobered the daddy surprised them by stumbling into the church after they got there. He gave his life to Christ and became the sober, loving father you see here.
