Creating Memories: An IANF Home Story

Creating Memories: An IANF Home Story

Every year, our team plans a birthday celebration for the children in the I Am Not Forgotten home. This program provides a home and a family for children who are orphaned and at risk. During the planning process, a staff member mentioned the girls had always wanted to visit the Hlane Royal National Park. This seemed like a farfetched idea, but with the help of our partners at Bethel Church, we were able to make this dream a reality.

The children had no idea of this plan! When the bus arrived at Hlane Park, everyone began shouting and dancing.

This year’s birthday celebration was the best-kept secret yet!

The Bethel Church team decorated the picnic area with a princess theme for the girls, and prepared fun Minute-to-Win-It games to play. The competition was intense, full of stacking cups, flipping bottles, and assembling cereal box logos! Bethel Church’s team members also brought backpacks full of goodies for each child, as well as their house mother, Make Nomsa. The children were overwhelmed with excitement and gratitude for the thoughtful gifts they received.

Of course, there was a special birthday buffet lunch for everyone, which included meat (a rare treat in Africa). After rounds of second helpings and dessert, it was time to go on the much-anticipated game drive! With each child seated by their buddy from Bethel Church, they drove into the wild. All eyes were peeled on the bush, hoping to spot some animals.

This adventure peaked in excitement, when one of the trucks got a flat tire in the lion section of the park. Nerves were tense, as the driver changed the tire, and children watched for approaching lions. Once the trucks were safely back on the road, they spotted elephants, giraffes, rhinos, and impalas. The kids were fascinated with seeing the animals up close in their natural habitat.

No birthday party is complete without cake! Back at the base, they ate cake and sang “Happy Birthday.” On the bus ride home, the girls were chatting and laughing about their day. Even back at the IANF Home, there were more gifts given from Children’s Cup, and they shared time together as a family.

That night, everyone went to bed with full tummies and big smiles.

Their dream became a reality through Bethel Church’s generosity! This was a day they will never forget, and it was made possible through our amazing partners. Your sponsorship and generosity allows Children’s Cup to make dreams come true, and bring hope to children who would otherwise be forgotten.
