Guguletfu: 2019 Highlight

Guguletfu: 2019 Highlight

   Gethin Amoss
   2 December 2019

Guguletfu is Siswati for the phrase, “treasured ones.” This event was started in 2017 and has grown each year since. It is a response to the needs of families in Eswatini that have children with special needs. Oftentimes, these families are overlooked and underserved due to cultural beliefs. But, thanks to incredible partners, we were able to hold four events in 2019 serving 80 caregivers and 80 children. In total, 160 volunteers came out to the events to help make them successful.

Guguletfu events focus on respite for the caregivers and recreation for the children. The children and families are seen and loved by local church members, bringing them joy through fun activities and teaching.

In addition to the events, home visits are completed throughout the year to ensure the family’s needs are met. Oftentimes, gifts are given to the families on a needs basis or when a new child is registered in the program.

A program manual is now in the works to train local pastors in the community on how to respond to families in need. Our team is working to partner with more local churches to ensure we continue reaching the most vulnerable communities.

We have received many incredible stories from the Guguletfu events. One mother in particular stated how the program came to her “emotional, physical and financial rescue, as the food parcels go a long way in helping them.”

Another caregiver reported that she has been “praying for the event and the donors and sponsors that make it possible, and that they would be blessed beyond measure!” because of the difference it is having in her family's life.

In 2020, we hope to partner with two more churches, recruit more volunteers, gain increased exposure, and see many more lives impacted through Guguletfu events.

Over the years, Gethin & Bex Amoss have had the opportunity to serve in many capacities with Children's Cup International in Southern Africa. They are now blessed to be serving as Regional Directors over Eswatini & South Africa as our wonderful team brings HOPE to thousands of children each and every day. Their family is honored to be here; they couldn't be doing this without their supporters and libertychurch.com.
