Love and Service

   9 November 2018

The Malindza CarePoint is a home away from home for many children. This is true for the seven students in this year's Economic Empowerment class. A close-knit group, these students have also become each other's community. They encourage, support, and challenge each other each day. From the "Dream Camp" in May to the "Work for a Living Camp" in August, they have learned a lot together. Heartbreakingly following the August camp, one of the students, Simphiwe, met Jesus face to face.

During a school break, Simphiwe visited his gogo (grandmother) far from his home. She lived near a dam which inspired him to go fishing. While we are unsure of what happened exactly, Simphiwe drowned, never returning to his gogo's home.

T-shirts intended as a reward for the students' half-way mark in the program read "Men and Ladies of Honor" were distributed early. Each student wore their shirt in solidarity at the funeral of their friend.

Carrying Simphiwe’s casket to the gravesite, the students personified honor that day. Their beautiful display of honor was a testimony to everyone in attendance. We could not be more proud of the men and women these students are becoming. That day, the loss of our beloved Simphiwe became the beauty of his friends’ act of love and service. Praise be to God.
