Overcoming Fear

Overcoming Fear

   Ben Rodgers
   7 September 2018

I’m thoroughly convinced that fear causes many people to miss the abundant life the Word of God promises. I believe millions of people are called by God to do something world-changing, but they will never fulfill their call. Why? Because those individuals allow fear to keep them pushed down and living far under what God has created for them.

The question is what about you? What has Jesus whispered to you about your future that you are almost afraid to say it out loud? He has called you to be a world changer. Will you push past fear?

I love this quote by Will Smith: “God placed the best things in life on the other side of fear.”

I wonder if God does that because He knows if we can master overcoming our fear and simply believe His promises, NOTHING COULD STOP US!

Part One — Recognize the Issue

Most people go about their everyday life not even aware of how much of their future is being held captive by fear. I believe overcoming the fear begins only when we start asking ourselves some questions:

  • What has God spoken to me?
  • What has He asked me to do?
  • What have I paused or even ignored?

Let me put in here a big caveat. I don’t believe you are supposed to just have big huge dreams and ask God to bless them. That’s backward. I believe you need to hear from God about your purpose. Then once you have clarity on that, you go after it!

This was me. I remember hearing a sermon about fear and thinking, “I’m not afraid. I’m a big strong guy. I’m not afraid of anything.” However, I started to explore my life.  With the help of the Holy Spirit, I discovered my life was hugely shaped by fear:

  • Fear of failure
  • Fear of the unknown
  • Fear of what others think

This list goes on and on!
