What Does the Bible Say About Orphans?

What Does the Bible Say About Orphans?

   Halle Erwin
   10 May 2019

God’s heart for orphans is clearly displayed throughout his Word. What are some of the ways God shows his love for these precious children? Leave us a comment below and let us know your favorite verse!

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27

“He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:2-4

“Father to the fatherless, defender of widows—this is God, whose dwelling is holy.” Psalm 68:5

“But you know all about it—the contempt, the abuse. I dare to believe that the luckless will get lucky someday in you. You won’t let them down: orphans won’t be orphans forever.” Psalm 10:14

“See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.” Matthew 18:10

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31

“You watch over strangers and immigrants and support the fatherless and widows…” Psalm 146:9

“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.” Psalm 127:3
